Chapter five

“Do you already know what happened?” Jon asked when he entered the room together with Dot.

Richie shook his head no and pulled a pale Kris closer to his body.

“Baby, did you eat something today?” Dot asked concerned and softly caressed her daughters face. “It’s important.” She added. Kris smiled sadly.

“I can’t eat now, mom. Not till I know what’s wrong with my baby.” She whispered. Dot nodded.

“Mr. and Mrs. Sambora?”

“Doctor Cunningham.” Richie jumped to his feet. “What’s wrong with our son?”

“Your son has an epidural hemorrhage.” Richie looked at him shocked. “When he fell off the tree he damaged his head. Typical for such a bleeding is that there are no symptoms for a while and then suddenly the patient collapsed, as it happened to your son.”

“What happens now?” Kris asked in a trembling voice. Richie put his arm around her waist to steady her.

“Your son is already on the way into surgery. We will open his cranium to release the pressure that the blood is causing to his brain afterwards he will be on ICU.”

“You open his head?” Kris’ legs buckled, Richie caught her and carefully helped her to sit down.

“Yes, ma’am. It’s the only way to save his life.” Doctor Cunningham said softly while checking Kris pulse. Tears started to shine in her eyes.

“My baby. My little baby.” Kris couldn’t control the tears any longer. Richie pulled her into his arms. Jon swallowed the lump that was forming in his throat when he saw his daughter so desperate.

Suddenly Doctor Cunningham’s beeper made a noise. He checked it. “I have to go now. I will inform you as soon as the surgery is over.”

“How long?” Richie asked in a throaty voice.

“A couple hours.” The doctor answered and walked out of the room. Jon watched him leaving and suddenly raced after him.

“Doc!” Doctor Cunningham turned around again. “Will he wake up again?” Jon asked silently.

Doctor Cunningham sighed deeply. “Honestly. I don’t know.” Jon tensed. “It depends on the damage and how he’ll be able to handle the surgery.”

Jon nodded shocked and watch him walked away.

“I need a doctor!” Jon spun around and saw Dot standing the hall and a Doctor rushing past her into the room. He sprinted back to her. “Kris collapsed!”

Entering the room they saw the Doctor checking Kris’ blood pressure and her pulse rate. “I will give her something to stabilize her and she should really eat something.”

Before the Doc could give her the medication Dot stepped close to him and whispered something. He looked at her for a second than changed the medicine. Richie frowned irritated, but Dot didn’t say anything.

“Richie, go and get her something to eat.” Dot said when Kris was slowly waking up again. He only nodded and left with Jon.

“Did you tell him?” Kris asked silently when they were alone.

“No, baby. That’s your job.” Dot smiled.

Kris sobbed. “Mom, what if John, what if….”

“Shhh, baby don’t think that way. I’m sure everything will be fine…” Dot tried to assure her and not to start crying on her own.

“Rich would go crazy when…” she let the sentence hang in the air. “Mom, what if he starts to drink again?”

“Oh, baby. He won’t. We’ll watch out for him, especially your dad.” Dot said and held while she cried.

Chapter four

Kris stretched lightly in her seat and tried to find a better position for her stiff back. It was now 5 pm and John was sleeping peacefully in his bed. She shook her head, he looked like an angel, but he could turn into a real devil.

A couple hours ago Richie had to use all his strength to hold his son down when Doctor Cunningham insert the IV line into his little hand. John was furious and he was still pissed when a nurse attached the monitoring unit to his body. Kris wasn’t even sure he was scared or that it really hurt him, it was more that he didn’t want to stay in the hospital.

She was close to collapse when she saw her son fighting against anything and everyone and already wanted to give in and take him home, but Richie was more controlled and told his son in a strict voice to stop. Kris had never seen him being that demanding with one of his kids. John seemed to be surprised too and stopped the screaming and fighting.

Now Richie was at home packing some necessary items for John and her. Then he would drop off Kathy, Ava and his mother at Jon and Dot’s before returning and spending the better part of the night here.

John moved slowly and opened his eyes. “Mommy?”

“Yes, baby…how are you feeling?…a bit better?” she ran her hand gently through his blond hair.

“Headache...” he whispered and touched the right side of his head, the area he hit the ground with.

“Still?...Hmmm…” she kissed his cheek and he tried to sit up, but seemed to be complete out of balance. Kris grabbed him before he fell out of the bed.

“John?” She stood up. “Are you dizzy, baby?” She looked him directly in the eyes, but they didn’t react at all. In the next second his eyes rolled back and the monitors started to beep uncontrollable.

“John?...Baby…” Kris touched his cheek and tried to wake him up again, but he didn’t instead he started to throw up.

“Shit!” Kris turned him to the side and made sure he wouldn’t aspirate the vomit. The door opened and a nurse followed by a pediatrician and Doctor Cunningham stormed into the room.

“Mrs. Sambora, please step back.” Doctor Cunningham pushed her gently, but demanding aside. She stumbled back and watched how they examined her little boy. His whole body was shaking and the beeping of the monitors wouldn’t stop.

Tears started to stream down her face, she was shaking uncontrollable. Where’s Richie?

The doctors started to roll the bed with her son out of the room.

“What will happen now?” Kris stuttered worried and followed them a couples meters down the hallway.

“Wait here, I’ll be back in a little while.” Doctor Cunningham said and rushed with his colleague away.

Kris stared at them in shock.

“Darling?” she turned around. Richie was standing in front of her, a small travelling bag and John’s favorite stuffed animal in his hands.

“Oh God, Richie.” She threw herself into his arms and started to sob.

“Darling…what happened?” he’d dropped the bag the moment Kris landed in his arms and held her tight now. “Where’s John?” he asked concerned. The room of his son was empty.

“He…he…he…” she was close to a break down.

“Darling, calm down…” Richie looked at her worried. He couldn’t remember ever seen her like this.

“He had some kind of a seizure…he was trembling, and threw up and …oh, Richie it was terrible when his eyes rolled back and there was nothing I could do.” She sobbed.

Rich pressed her close to his body; he wasn’t able to say anything. All he could do was hold her.

Chapter Three

“You can’t get in here.” A nurse stopped Richie and Kris.

“You wanna bet?” Kris said and pushed her roughly aside. Richie had an apologetic smile on his face.

“Mommy!” her son screamed as soon as she was in the room. Kris breathed out relieved. Thank God, he’s awake!

“John.” She hurried over to him. “I’m here baby….shhh, don’t cry….” She leaned over him, hugged him carefully and wiped the tears away. “It’s ok; we are here now…we won’t leave you alone. Don’t cry, John.” Her son finally calmed down a bit.

“Hi, buddy…” Richie kissed his son’s forehead and took his hand in his.

“Daddy…I wanna go home. I don’t like it here.” His son whined. Richie smiled softly.

“Well, see…ok, buddy? First Mom and I need to talk with the doctor.” John frowned that his father didn’t agree with him, but stayed calm.

The doctor observed the whole situation from a couple meters away. The little boy was much calmer and easier to handle since his parents showed up and he was relieved that he recognized them.

“Mr. and Mrs. Sambora…” They both looked up when the doctor approached them. “…my name is Doctor Cunningham, I did the first examination of your son…or better I tried.“ he said with a little grin.

Kris grimaced. “I’m sorry, normally I’m with him when he has a doctor’s appointment…I…” Doctor Cunningham raised his hands and she stopped.

“I know, I know…that’s ok...it’s normal that kids are afraid, maybe you can help me do some examinations again. He really wasn’t happy about them before.” He grinned. Kris nodded and Doctor Cunningham stepped closer to the examination table.

“Ok, John…remember we two did that before, I touch you and you tell me when something hurts…ok?”

“Mommy…” John tried to sit up.

“No, John!” Rich and Kris said in unison. The boy looked at them unsure.

“Lay down, baby. We are here…and when something hurts you tell us and the doctor will stop.” Kris pushed him down gently. John bit his lower lip, but nodded.

Carefully Doctor Cunningham palpated the boy’s body. He didn’t wince once. “Well, that was that…great job, John.” He said when he was done. “Didn’t hurt, right?”

“No.” John whispered and looked at his parents. Richie winked at him and his son smiled softly.

“Can I look into your eyes again, John?” the doc pulled a little flashlight from his pocket.

John nodded and grabbed the hand of his mother. “It’s ok, baby…I’m here….you doing really good.” She encouraged him.

“See, that was it…” Doctor Cunningham turned to Richie and Kris. “Ok, he seems rather fit right now, nothing is broken which is a miracle considering that he fell from a tree, but he was unconscious and very disorientated when the ambulance brought him here, he has a headache and told me the last thing he can remember is that you two dropped him and his sister off at school…that means he has no memory about the accident…right John?” Doctor Cunningham looked at the little boy.

The boy nodded. “You dropped me and Kathy off, that’s all I know.” Kris squeezed his hand softly.

“That’s ok baby…I’m sure you’ll remember later.”

“The memory can come back…but sometimes it doesn’t.” Doctor Cunningham continued. “He has some symptoms for a concussion and that’s why I would really like to keep him here over night, so we can observe him and be right there when things change.” Richie nodded understanding.

“Can I stay with him?” Kris asked concerned.

“Yes, we have rooms at the children medical unit especially for that situation.” Doctor Cunningham said and Kris smiled relieved. No chance, she would let him alone again.

Chapter Two

“Yeah, Richie doesn’t …” but she wasn’t able to finish her sentence, her mobile rang. She sighed.

“Sambora.”

“Mrs. Sambora. This is Miss Miller. I’m the principal of your kids’ school.” Kris straightened up immediately in her seat.

“Yes, of course Miss Miller. Is something wrong with Kathy or John?” she asked worried. Dot looked at her concerned.

“I’m afraid…yes. Your son, John, had an accident.”

“Oh my god! What happened? Is he ok?” Kris jumped to her feet.

“Well, apparently he climbed on one of the tress in the school yard and fell down.” Kris eyes grew wide in shock.

“He fell off a tree??” she whispered and sank down on her chair again. Dot squeezed her shoulders softly.

“Where is he?” Kris asked worried.

“He’s on the way to the hospital; he was unconscious when they drove away with him.” Miss Miller explained softly.

“Unconscious!” Kris nearly screamed. “Which hospital? And where’s my daughter?”

Miss Miller named the hospital and told her that Kathy was with her brother. They weren’t able to separate the twins. Kris smiled lightly. The two were always together, no chance Kathy would leave her brother alone especially in this condition.

“Ok, thanks.” Kris hung up and hurried out of the kitchen.

“Car…” she whispered disorientated.

“Kris…Kris, baby… calm down, breathe…you need to breathe…” Dot grabbed her daughter by her shoulders and stopped her. Kris closed her eyes and breathed deeply.

“Mom, she said he’s unconscious…my little baby…” Tears were shining in her eyes.

“But he’s on the way to the hospital…that means they are taking care of him.” Dot tried to calm her. She knew it wouldn’t help. She wouldn’t buy that shit either when one of her kids were hurt. As expected Kris only snorted unladylike.

“I need to call Richie; we have to go to the hospital…” Kris hit the speed dial on her phone. “Ahhhhh…only voice mail….” She screamed. “Why can’t he leave his fucking phone on?” she was getting pissed.

Good, Dot thought. That anger keeps her from collapsing. “Because they are in the studio…let’s call the landline…Obie will answer.” Dot said already dialling.

“Yes, studio.”

“Obie, send Rich and Jon over to the house immediately….” Dot said.

“Dot? I don’t think that’s a good idea right now…”

“Obie, Richie’s son had an accident ...send them over NOW!” Dot told him.

“Sure.” Was his answer before he hung up.

Two minutes later Richie and Jon were sprinting through the still open patio doors.

“What happened? Where is he?” Richie asked breathless.

“He’s in hospital…he fell off a tree…” Kris whispered and pressed herself to him. Richie looked at her shocked.

“We can tell you the rest on the way…get in the car…I drive!” Dot said and they all hurried outside.

Entering the ER just a couple minutes later Richie and Jon were as shocked and concerned as their wives. Kris walked straight over to the counter.

“I’m looking for John Sambora…he was brought here from school.” Kris said fumbling nervously with a tissue in her hands.

“And you are..?” the nurse asked with an annoyed look on her face. Kris eyes narrowed dangerously.

“I’m his MOTHER…”she screamed. “I wanna see my son immediately or I make sure the fucking world gets to know how incompetent the people are that are working here!” She was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

“Darling…calm down.” Richie tried and pulled her away from the counter, while Dot talked to the nurse.

“No, Richard! I will not calm down! My four year old son is here somewhere, hurt, unconscious…and I wanna see him NOW!” Richie could see the fury in her eyes.

When it came down to their kids Kris would do anything, when someone would try to hurt them Kris turned in to a lioness…and this lioness right now was more then pissed of. Where is John? Rich asked himself.

“Mommy?” A little unsure voice asked from behind them. They turned around and there all alone in the hallway was their daughter, her favorite jeans overalls covered with dirt and fear visible in her dark brown eyes.

“Kathy!” Kris ran to her and picked her up in her arms. “Are you ok, baby?”

She nodded and hugged her mother. “John is hurt.” She whispered.

Kris nodded and softly swept a dark streak of hair of her little face. She was a female version of her dad, while John with his blond hair and deep blue eyes looked like his mother. “Yeah, I know, baby…where is he? Can you show us?”

“Over there.” Her little girl pointed to one door.

Kris and Richie walked towards the door immediately and Kathy followed them.

“No, babygirl…let’s wait here, ok?” Jon stopped his granddaughter. She looked at him with sad eyes, but didn’t throw a tantrum as Jon expected.

“Ok…” she whispered and raised her arms. Jon smiled and picked her up.

“He’ll be ok again…you’ll see.” He kissed her cheek and cradled her softly, when she started to cry.

Chapter One

It was a sunny morning when Kris crossed the grounds and walked from the studio over to her parents New Jersey house. She and Richie just dropped off the kids at school and now he was in the studio with the rest of the band. It was the first day of recording for the new album.

Her father was eager to start recording again. She smiled. No surprise. For the last two years he and the band weren’t allowed to do anything except family life.

She chuckled softly remembering that shocked impression on his face when Lexi, Alejandra, Dot and Kris told their husbands after the last Tour it was time for a break. He tried to argue, but the women stood their ground. For the next two years they wanted their husbands at home and even though he would probably never admit it, Kris knew that Jon enjoined it and was glad he could spent some time especially with Steph before she left for college.

She reached the terrace and entered the living room through the open patio doors.

“Mom?” she yelled.

“In the kitchen, baby!” Dot answered equally loud.

“Good morning!” Dot hugged her happily when she reached the kitchen. It had been quite a while since they saw each other and she missed her oldest daughter. But it was much more difficult to find some free time in both family schedules as they expected. Maybe it would be easier now with the band recording again.

“Don’t tell me Richie is already awake.” Dot said with a little chuckle. It was just 8:30 am and so not Richie’s time of the day. Kris laughed.

“Well, I just dropped him off at the studio. Dad wanted to start early today.” She giggled. “Everybody is grumpy over there.” She added and the two women laughed. So typical for the first day of recording.

“Unbelievable that you were able to get Rich out of bed.” Dot said and placed a bowl with fruit salad on the table.

“Well, I can’t take credits for that. Kathy and John teased him till he finally got up.” Kris said with twinkling eyes.

“And it’s not that you told them to do that, huh?” Dot smirked.

“Me?” Kris asked with played innocence. “I would never do that!” she laughed and Dot grinned.

The twins were now four years old and could be very persistent. Richie sometimes asked what she was giving them to eat, because it couldn’t be normal that they were so hard to calm down. She was always telling him with a grin that he was getting old and just no longer to able to handle young kids.

Nevertheless Kris had to admit that her kids were stressful and laddish. She stopped counting how often they got bruises, cuts or abrasions from their wild play. And Kathy was no differences to her brother. With horror Kris remembered her daughter walking up to her all covered with mud and dirt and showing her one of her baby tooth.

“Mommy, I don’t need that anymore.” She said and put the little tooth in her hand. She lost it during a football play with her slightly older uncles. Romeo and Jake tried to calm their oldest sister, but Kris told them they should stop the play. She wanted her daughter in ONE piece with all pieces that belong to her.

That was the day when she stocked up the medicine cabinet and never left the house without her first aid-kit again.

“So, how is it going? How’s the teen of the house?” Dot asked and grinned when Kris groaned lightly.

“The teen is in full pissed-off-mode.” Kris said. “I don’t wanna get up. Leave me alone. It’s not your business, I’m an adult now. I wanna go to that party.” She imitated her stepdaughter. “I particular liked, ‘He’s my boyfriend. I can do with him whatever I want’.”

Dot laughed out loud. “Did Rich hear that?”

“Yep.” Kris grinned. “Big fight with tears and ‘I hate you’ and reconciliation with even more tears.”

“Poor Richie.” Dot said.

“Poor me!” Kris said. “He blamed me to be on her side, when I said he should try to understand her.” Dot looked at her with surprise.

“Yep.” Kris nodded and picked a strawberry out of the salad. “We are still dealing with it. How did you survive me?” She asked grinning.

“With lots of kick boxing for me and tones of grey hair for your dad.” She said laughing. Kris grinned.

“Coffee?” Dot held up a mug.

“No, thanks…tea for me please.” Kris declined and grinned about the stunned look on her mother’s face. There was only one possible reason for Kris not to drink coffee.

Welcome

This is a short story sequel to "I'll be there for you...even if you don't want it." After I ended the story, I thought I would never hear from Richie and Kris again, but guess what they showed up again and wanted to know what's going on in their live. lol

The story takes place about four years after the twins birth and is not a romantic or sexy story. Actually you will probably get rather sad. Hard times in the Sambora/Bongiovi household.

The story starts here.

When you haven't read the main story yet. Check it out  here.
